School Swimming CPDs

The School Swimming Suite is made up of four training courses. They use both theory and practical sessions to teach you the most effective ways of delivering school swimming lessons.

Support Teacher of School Swimming

This CPD is for school staff or volunteers who will be supporting a school swimming and water safety programme. The CPD gives learners the skills and knowledge to effectively support a school swimming and water safety programme. The course content covers how to actively assist a more qualified teacher in teaching core aquatic skills and national curriculum requirements to individuals or small groups whilst remaining under the direct supervision of more qualified teaching staff in line with the pools risk assessment and Pool Safety Operating Procedure (PSOP).

The Support Teacher of School Swimming is a CPD open to anyone over the age of 18 years who works or volunteers in a school or education environment. This training enables learners to actively assist within the context of a school swimming and water safety programme.

This CPD provides 3 CIMSPA endorsed CPD points.

Face to Face or blended delivery: 4.5 hours theory and 1.5 hours pool practical.
E Learning delivery: 6 hours online learning (no practical)

This CPD can be delivered either face to face or blended with some online learning and will include a practical element in the pool. The online delivery will have no practical element included.

Teacher of School Swimming

Once completed, you will be equipped to plan and evaluate school swimming and water safety lesson plans in line with the national curriculum, and teach independently in a school swimming programme, in line with the swimming lesson providers risk assessment and pool safety operating procedures.

The CPD is open to anyone who has already completed the Support Teacher of School Swimming CPD and is working in a school environment and has responsibility for a group or class of pupils; school teachers, teaching assistants, learning support staff, and PGCE students who are over the age of 18.

This training enables learners to actively teach within the context of a school swimming and water safety programme.

This CPD provides 4.5 CIMSPA endorsed CPD points.

7.5 hours theory and 1.5 hours pool practical.

Support Teacher of School Swimming and Teacher of School Swimming Combined course

Once completed, you will be equipped to plan and evaluate lesson plans in line with the national curriculum and teach independently in a school swimming programme in line with the swimming lesson providers risk assessment and pool safety operating procedures.

This course is suitable for those working in a school swimming environment who has previous experience in being responsible for a class or group of pupils; school teachers, teaching assistants, learning support staff, and PGCE students who are over the age of 18.

This training enables learners to actively teach within the context of a school swimming and water safety programme.

This combined CPD provides 7.5 CIMSPA endorsed CPD points.

15 hours consisting of both theory and pool practical.

Teaching School Swimming and Water Safety

This CPD has been developed to give Level 2 swimming teachers a more in-depth knowledge of how to deliver school swimming lessons that meet national curriculum requirements.

The national curriculum sets out three swimming and water safety outcomes which all pupils must demonstrate before they leave Year 6. Swimming teachers are perfectly placed to support schools to fulfil this statutory requirement, and this course gives them an understanding of what primary schools are required to teach and report on.

This CPD is aimed Level 2 Swimming Teachers who want to deliver school swimming lessons.

This CPD provides 1.5 CIMSPA endorsed CPD points.

This CPD covers the aims of the curriculum and sets out some important considerations for how swimming teachers can support schools to make the most of swimming lessons. It reveals teaching methods relevant to the wider curriculum and school environment. It also covers the Swimming and Water Safety Charter and its awards framework which provides progressive outcomes for school swimming lessons.
